Join local community members and businesses to pick up discarded litter and trash in the neighborhood.
Volunteers will meet at our check-in location, get equipment, listen to a safety speech, and then head out into the neighborhood to pick up trash for a brief 2-hour period. Litter is a serious threat to both the local economy and environment. We want to leave our city streets and neighborhoods looking clean, inviting, and vibrant. SOLVE’s mission is to create opportunities for individuals and businesses to give back to their community. Volunteer opportunities like this play a critical role in maintaining the beauty and integrity of our city. Invite your family, friends, and co-workers. This is a family friendly event, open to volunteers of all ages.
Volunteers should pre-register for the events to reserve their spot for the event. Volunteers should arrive on time and are encouraged to bring any personal supplies that will help our resources go further such as garbage bags, work gloves, buckets, trash grabbers, etc. If you bring personal belongings wear a backpack so that you can pick up trash hands free. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather. Bring a rain jacket if the forecast calls for rain and wear sunscreen and a hat if it is sunny. This event will go on rain or shine. And it is also recommended that volunteers bring a re-usable water bottle to stay hydrated during the event.
The events safety guidelines will be explained by the SOLVE staff Event Leader at each event.
Founded in 1969, SOLVE’s mission is to bring Oregonians together to improve our environment and build a legacy of stewardship. SOLVE restores and preserves Oregon’s environment by mobilizing the power of volunteers and partners with the generosity of donors. Across the state, we bring diverse communities together to improve the health and safety of our neighborhoods and natural areas including our coast, rivers, parks, and forests.
We implement litter cleanups because we know the importance of keeping our neighborhoods safe and healthy, while also understanding the importance of picking up litter before it heads downstream, impacting our waterways and ocean. We orchestrate year-round beach cleanups because we know they are essential to reducing the harmful effects of plastic pollution and other marine debris. We plant native trees and shrubs and remove invasive species to help Oregon’s habitats stay healthy, so they can continue to support a wealth of pollinators and other wildlife.
