Volunteer to care for Hoyt Arboretum’s trees and trails with a variety of hands-on stewardship projects. With 189-acres and more than 6,000 trees along 12 miles of trails, volunteers are incredibly important to maintaining Hoyt Arboretum’s tree collection and trail system, and it’s a unique opportunity for volunteers to learn about and care for rare and unusual trees and plants from around the world!
Stewardship projects vary with the needs of the season, but often include invasive species removal, weeding and mulching, trail maintenance, and more
Meeting Location: Volunteers will meet in the maintenance yard behind the Visitor Center at 4000 SW Fairview Blvd, Portland, OR 97221 Where to park: Volunteers can park in the large or small parking lots by the Visitor Center. Volunteer parking passes will be provided to use in the pay-to-park lots. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. If you park along the shoulder of Fairview Blvd, please be sure to check that you're not in an area signed "No Parking," which can result in a parking ticket. Please note that we have experienced an increase in vehicle break-ins throughout Washington Park. Please do not leave anything visible in your vehicle and remove any valuable items. What to wear: This is an outdoor volunteer opportunity and will occur rain or shine. Please be dressed for the weather and be prepared to get a little dirty. Long pants and sturdy, closed-toed shoes are necessary. What to bring: Please bring water, snacks, and any other personal supplies you need. Gloves and tools are provided. Bee allergies: If you are allergic to bees, please know we do have bees in the park, and stings can happen. Please bring whatever you need to be safe. COVID-19: If you are feeling any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay safe and stay home.
