Are you interested in volunteering as a group? Professional teams, organizations, and groups of community members are invited to schedule a 2-hour volunteer event at our Wilsonville warehouse location.
Your activity will be determined by how many people are in your group, and the flow of our general warehouse activities. Most groups will be building food boxes. But there is a possibility that your group will be taping boxes, re-palletizing, or helping with other warehouse activities. Box building activity: Your group works as a team to pack stable food into boxes for distribution. This is done on an “assembly line”. Each person selects an item that is then put into the boxes. These boxes are then given to families in the Portland area. Box taping activity: The essential activity of prepping the boxes for box building. Your group will work in small groups of 3-5 people to tape and stack cardboard boxes. This is usually reserved for groups smaller than 8, or groups that are so large they need to be split into two groups. Re-palletizing: This is one of my favorite activities! When we receive shipments, they need to be broken down and put into large containers so that they are easily accessible on the box building line. For example, we will get a shipment of 400 cans of beans that are wrapped up with plastic and separated by cardboard. The cardboard and plastic needs to be taken off and separated, and then the cans will be put into one large container.
The work is somewhat active, but the heat is not on in the warehouse. It still remains significantly warmer than outside, but I personally prefer athletic shoes, layers, and a sweatshirt during winter weather. Because it is an active warehouse, you must wear closed toed shoes.
