Donate and assemble sack lunches for people experiencing homelessness and staying in one of our shelters!
Your team can provide lunch for the residents of one or more shelters in need of food for their residents! Teams must provide enough for all shelter residents - anywhere from 50 - 100 people, depending on site. Sack meals are such a benefit to shelters, providing residents an easy grab-and-go meal when they head out for work or appointments. Sack meals should contain: * An entree (sandwich such as PB&J or deli meats & cheese, or shelf-stable options like tuna pouches and crackers) * Fruit (soft fruits preferable, bananas or oranges) * Snack (granola bar, chips, nuts) * Optional - drinks and dessert items Transition Projects operates 8 shelters, and has openings for sack lunch delivery most days. Delivery time is flexible: delivery by noon is great for same-day lunch; if you need to deliver later, we can use for lunch the following day. Priority sites most in need of food support are Banfield Shelter Motel in Hollywood (55 residents), Laurelwood Center on SE Foster (100 residents), and Walnut Park shelter in NE Portland (70 residents).
Volunteers should follow food safety measures while preparing sack meals, ensuring that hands and surfaces are kept clean, and foods kept at safe temperatures.
Transition Projects provides individuals with the services they need to end their homelessness, secure housing, and maintain that housing. Serving over 10,000 people annually through street outreach, a resource center, shelters, and supportive services, Transition Projects helps Portland’s most vulnerable neighbors start their journey toward stable housing.
