Meal provider teams essentially adopt a shelter for a night, planning a menu, purchasing ingredients, cooking and delivering or serving their meal to the residents of a shelter for folks experiencing homelessness. Groups will choose one of our 8 shelters to provide a meal for, located downtown and throughout NE and SE Portland. Depending on the site, you would be cooking for anywhere from 35-80 people. Groups are welcome to cook at home and deliver meals for shelter staff to serve, or they may cook onsite at one of the 5 shelters with an onsite kitchen, provided they share proof of vaccination, and comply with COVID protocols and volunteer capacity limits for shelter kitchens (3-4 people max, depending on site). Transition Projects' 8 shelters all rely on volunteer Meal Providers to provide a hot, nutritious dinner to all their shelter residents, every night of the year. With 8 sites needing dinner every day, this is always a huge need, and a great way to immediately impact our clients, ensuring they have a solid evening meal, the better for a good night's rest and a good start for tomorrow. Proof of vaccination is required for onsite service. Groups are also able to cook offsite and deliver meals.
On-site cooking and/or food service requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Please bring your vaccination card or a photo of it.
